Valletta’s own young rapper, Owen Leuellen, has won many fans, both young and old. Following his meteoric rise to stardom through the hit TV reality show X Factor, Owen-mania has swept our school, too. And this shouldn’t come as a surprise – not only do our students love his songs and identify with his background, but Owen himself showed that he is warm and sociable during our meet and greet with him.
Owen visited our school on the 1st of March as part of our Carnival activities. Our students performed a rap written for him by Ms Apap, our Maltese head of department. For a gruelling hour he signed hundreds of photos and gave photo opportunities to everyone, young and old alike. We can even reveal that Ms Borg Gaffarena and the assistant heads had their photo taken with him once our students had left!
The activities continued apace with a Carnival concert organised by our talented students. Helped by their teachers, the students prepared dance routines and sang songs. Everyone cheered each other and the students’ sense of accomplishment was evident.
The day’s activities were far from over, however. Ms Seguna and Ms Attard then took to the stage, comparing a whole list of guests running from Brazilian and French dancers performing traditional dances, to a return visit by Owen Leuellen, to a spectacular medley by the band Queen. Top models exhibited fashion by two noted Maltese designers. In short, few school concerts could boast such a stellar guest list! I guess it’s true that at Blata l-Bajda everything is possible!
