On the 8th of May 2019, a group of Year 7 students participated in a math scavenger hunt at Mdina. The students were divided into small groups. Using a map and the directions provided, each group had to walk around Mdina to gather information and solve puzzles at different locations.
The tasks included identifying the shape of buildings, estimating the height of the door of the cathedral, drawing lines of symmetry, working bills from menus, calculating probability, and finding time intervals from opening hours.
The outing was intended to help students become aware that mathematics is everywhere around us and to compel them to use their mathematical skills outside the classroom. The group of students who achieved the highest score were rewarded with a prize and all the participating students were presented with a certificate.
