A group of migrant students is taking part in language support lessons organised by the Migrant Learners’ Unit. Lessons for these newcomer learners are held in Maltese and in English. Students come from Syria, Thailand, Ethiopia and China. During the sessions students discuss various topics including feelings, describing a person, population, domestic violence and the Chinese New Year. Apart from formal academic lessons, students listen to popular songs and do crafts in order to improve their language in a communicative and fun way.
Students visited the Maltese Parliament in Valletta and attended a meeting chaired by the deputy speaker. Bills about domestic violence and equality between men and women were discussed and amended.
