Learning Support Zone Trekking Activity

It was a beautiful warm Spring’s day when a group of students had the opportunity to carry out a Trekking Activity to celebrate the closure of a Programme they had carried out with the school’s Learning Support Zone. The mentioned Activity was organized with the collaboration of Heritage Malta.

The bus ride itself to the village of Mgarr was indeed a pleasant one. The students hailed from Valletta, Hamrun and Paola and so they really appreciated the picturesque views the north of our island offers. On arriving at Mgarr, the students who were accompanied by Ms D.Ferrante and Ms S.Galea , Learning Support Zone Teacher and LSA, were greeted by Ms Jennifer and Mr.Chris, teachers at Heritage Malta. The latter allowed them to visit Skorba and Tal-Hagrat Temples, both found in Mgarr. The students were very interested in the short and informative visits in the mentioned Temples. They valued that Skorba was the first primitive village to be found on our island which was home to the first settlers in Malta. They were also awed by the monumental doorway and the structure of the Megalithic Temples of Hagrat which date back to 3000BC.

Before kicking off to Trekking, the students had a short break in Mgarr Square where they also had the opportunity to taste the delicious strawberries this village boasts. Trekking from Mgarr to Ghajn Tuffieha Bay followed. So many picurtesque landscapes were appreciated on the way, not to mention the excitement of climbing over the mud hills at Ghajn Tuffieha.

This outing was indeed very pleasurable to students and teachers alike. Besides celebrating the closure of a Programme which had come to an end, the students continued to strengthen existing friendships, they participated in healthy conversations with peers and adults and they continued to learn how to behave appropriately in environments which are away from school and home.
