Dear Emily,
I hope this letter finds you in the best of spirits. You were head over heels to know how my Carnival holidays went, that’s why I am sending you this letter. I spent my Carnival holidays with my best friend Elyse Ann.
During Carnival Elyse Ann and I decided to go to Italy for the first time. We were planning to see the enormous Carnival trailers and shows because we read that in Italy they have such beautiful Carnivals. On the 23rd of February 2021, we met up at the airport at around 5 o’clock in the morning. While we were waiting for our flight, we started planning what we were going to do when we arrived. Finally, it was time to go on the airplane. My best friend and I couldn’t breathe because we were laughing too hard because the whole crew was wearing a costume including the captain! When everyone settled down, the pilot turned on the engine to prepare for take off. In the blink of an eye we found ourselves in Italy.
When we got out of the plane, we saw a porter that offered to help us port our belongings near the exit. After a few minutes our taxi came to pick us up. About two and a half hours later, we found ourselves unpacking in our rooms. At three o’clock, we were going to attend to a birthday party that the mother of my Italian friend organized for her 11th birthday. It was still noon so we decided to go to the local place. There were lots of interesting places such as museums, souvenir shops and so much more. At three o’clock the party started and since my Italian friend didn’t know that we were going to Italy, we decided to hide in a box to pretend that we were a present. Finally it was time for my Italian friend to open the gifts. It was time to open the last and final one; that was the box we were in. When she opened it we came out! She was so exited to see us in person for the first time and in fact she started to cry! While I was going out of the big box my leg got stuck and in the blink of an eye I found myself lying on the floor with my foot and head hurting.
My Italian friend was so scared for me that she started to panic. Our mums called the ambulance and it took me straight to the hospital. The doctor told me some good news and bad news. The bad news was that I had broken my leg and the good news was that my head was ok but I was very lucky that I didn’t do any damage to my brain! He also told me that after at least one night there I could go celebrate the last few days I had, but with some limits. The next day, when I finally got out of the hospital, my best friend and I decided to go visit our Italian friend to tell her that I was ok, but while I was dressing up in my costume, I noticed that it had a humongous hole at the back! I ran as fast as my feet could carry me to my best friend’s room to tell her the bad news. But before I could even open my mouth, she showed me her costume and it had a hole at the back like mine! We had some extra money, so we decided to go buy a new costume for us since we still had two more days to celebrate the Carnival holidays. We spent the penultimate day searching for nice costumes in malls. The last day we decided to meet our Italian friend for the final time before we left Italy.
The holiday had passed as fast as lightning speed and I wish that the holiday had been longer. Although I broke my leg, it was still a good holiday because I met my Italian friend in real life for the first time. I will surely go to Italy again, but this time without breaking my leg and with you!
Hope you respond back and tell me how your Carnival holidays went.
Your cousin,
Ja-naya
